So it’s still cold, you guys, and we’re 3 days into January already. And it’s not Florida cold. My friend, the former New Yorker, said it’s New York cold, the kind of cool dry weather that signals snow. Dry except for the incessant rain, anyway. We are still in vacation mode around here, so I am taking advantage of PJ days and holing up inside the house to catch up on work and laundry.
So far this month, in addition to outfit ideas involving colorful coats and cozy sweaters, I’ve also discussed a couple of the fundamentals of successful outfit planning: Body Type + Color Code. Today, I’m adding Lifestyle to the puzzle. Based on my BeautyMommy Survey (have you taken yours yet?) and interaction with my BeautyMommy VIP group, I’ve identified the 5 most common lifestyle categories for BeautyMommy readers:
Which of these categories best describes you, or would you define your lifestyle differently? Please let me know in the comments below. Once you’ve looked at lifestyle, look at your calendar for the week and come up with a list of the activities and places that you go to in a typical week.
For example, as a Mom-on-the-Go, my responsibilities include homeschooling, taking the girls to their activities, volunteering, working with clients, working from home, attending meetings, Bible study, church, etc. Once you see your weekly activities laid out in front of you, you can get a better idea of the clothes required for those activities.
Here’s a sample from my calendar for next week. (Please ignore the multiple tabs. They drive Kevin crazy).
Looking at this schedule, I see that I can be more casual on Monday and Thursday, and dress up a bit more Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I can even use my calendar to plan or record outfit ideas. although I’ll have more outfit planning tools for you to check out later in the week.
Although it’s simple, this exercise really helps you connect your lifestyle to your clothes. Someone in my VIP group recently said that their lifestyle is very casual but their wardrobe is dressy, and so she feels as if she has nothing to wear. While today’s outfits are more casual, I’ll be including a mix of outfits for every lifestyle in this month’s posts. And now for today’s outfit formula:
Leather Leggings + Neutral Sweater
Faux leather leggings (or vegan leather, as it’s being called) and real leather leggings have become a style staple this season, so if you haven’t grabbed a pair, check out the $15 (on sale) version below. They’re sleek, stylish and super-comfy. Not into leather/pleather? Substitute your favorite black leggings or black skinnies in any of the outfits below. These looks combine luxe leather leggings with a cozy, neutral sweater in camel, cream, gray or black. Finish the look with a great tote or crossbody and stylish boots or sneakers in either white or black.
Leather Leggings for Every Budget
Still haven’t snagged a pair of leather leggings this season? It’s not too late, and many styles are on sale. And while they’ve become a staple this time of year, they can be worn year round.
I hope you’ve been inspired by the cute outfit ideas shown here! Tomorrow, more outfits, plus we’ll add Personal Style to the style puzzle.
