Mortified

Today, we were in Sam's Club (yes, my life is glamorous) with the two girls, when I stopped to talk to a very nice older woman who was commenting on how beautiful and sweet my two girls were. We started talking about people who commit crimes against children and how heinous they are, etc. when out of the blue Lola said: "I don't like her." Just like that. Now I've heard stories of kids embarassing their parents, and I've half laughed/half shuddered at them in the past, but this is the first time I have been completely humiliated by my own child. And worse: She kept repeating it, even though I kissed her and tried to muffle her voice with a hug. Nothing worked. The woman and I just stared at each other, dumbfounded. It was a very uncomfortable moment. Finally I told her that it was nice to meet her, excused myself and slinked away in horror. I scolded Lola so many times that my husband finally told me to lay off. I just needed her to get the severity of the situation. Horror!

Anybody have any similar stories of being mortified by their own precious offspring? Please share!
