Surprising Makeup Rules
Recently, due to a more hectic lifestyle, I've found myself wearing makeup more and more and thinking about it more and more, and here are a few simple observations I've made:
1. Recycled makeup is better: Sometimes, at the end of the day, I'm tempted to wash my face and start fresh with my makeup if I'm going somewhere in the evening. Almost without fail, I end up disliking my makeup job, and I just can't get the desired effect. But when I just touch up the existing makeup, it's easier, faster and looks better. I know this is completely counterintuitive, but it's true!
2. Skip the powder: It's aging. If you absolutely must use it, use the smallest amount possible, and only on the shiny spots. It settles in lines and makes you look old and flat and cakey.
3. Less is more: The more time I spend on my makeup, the less I like the way I look, especially in pictures. More makeup makes you look older, and trying to hard shows on your face. When I've run out the door with a minimum of makeup (a little Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation, Diorshow Blackout mascara, Nars Orgasm blush and some lip color) I feel fresh and finished and youthful. Too much more makes me look old and tired.
