Simply Straight Brazilian Keratin Treatment

While getting my hair colored last week, I told my stylist that I wanted Sarah Jessica Parker's hair in Sex and the City, after she colored it to go incognito. Long loose waves in a shimmery reddish-brown. I was tired of my boring brown and the too-tight curl pattern that I have. I have always wanted to try the Japanese Hair Treatments, but initially they weren't compatible with hair color, and I have to color my hair to cover the gray. I was reluctant to try a perm to change the curl (you can actually perm your hair with big curlers to create looser curls), but Susie suggested the Simply Straight Keratin Treatment. So I booked it! According to Pam, who will be doing the treatment, it doesn't straighten your hair, but it makes it less frizzy, shinier, and makes the curls a little looser. Here's a description of the product from the internet: "Formaldehyde Free. High Quality, Purest Keratin. Natural, Healthy Smoothing Process. Restructures & Reconditions Hair Fibers. Creates Incredible Shine. Haircolor Safe."

I'm scheduled to have this long (3 hours plus for my hair) treatment on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes!

I really found it to be a waste of time and money. It took forever, cost $500, and seemed to do nothing to my hair that a conditioning treatment wouldn't do. My hair was maybe a litle softer afterwards, but even that was debatable, and that was literally the only difference I noticed. It did NOT help with frizz, relax my curl or reduce the amount of hair product I have to slap on. See this blog, and the comments below it, for more info:

I have heard that it works for some people, but it didn't work at all for me.

Indeed! Before I read your reply to my comment, I, too, had booked this "too good to be true" smoothing treatment.

I was reassured many times over by the salon that EVERYONE was delighted with the process and extremely satisfied. I was still hesitant because of my thick, frizzy hair, but felt as though I was aggressively forced into having the procedure done and was even given a discount to do it. I was goaded and goaded until I finally, and nervously, said yes.

Well, I experienced the same exact results as you did. Although I was promised the same thing and was told how thrilled everyone was who had the treatment at this salon, it definitely didn't work on me. My hair took just as long to dry, it still was frizzy (which I had to remedy as usual by using anti-frizz products and flat-ironing daily), and just like you said, the end result was like I had used a deep conditioner before a shampoo which I often do and definitely can still do myself with minimal effort and $$$. AND I also agree with you that the treatment wasn't nearly as soft or made my hair shine in way that I couldn't have done at home via a deep conditioner and other over-the-counter hair products.

I truly didn't expect miracles, but I thought for the money I paid this treatment would help allieviate my ongoing fight with frizz, especially in the humidity. But, as we have both discovered, this treatment is not for hair that frizzes easily. I guess it would be a nice treatment for someone with money to blow and who has waves with slight frizz, but it definitely doesn't work for those with curls, frizz, and tight budgets!

I received the exact same results as I always did by blow-drying, using anti-frizz serums, heat protector sprays, and flat-ironing. Which I STILL had to do AFTER having the costly treatment.

Most innocently and in good faith, I left a very kind voice mail message detailing the lack of results to the stylist who applied the treatment to my hair the night before, telling her that when I awoke first thing the very next morning (in my heavilly air-conditioned home) what I saw in the mirror was a big-time "halo" of frizz floating from my head! The stylist unfortunately ignored my message until it was too late to add more product, which obviously needed to be done because my porous hair had absorbed the product that she did put on, and apparently, it needed more product to entirely smooth and seal the hair cuticle.

Because she foolishly ignored my call, she now has to do the whole thing over again free of charge due to the salon's 100% satisfaction guarantee. AND because I simply can't live with blowing that kind of money on false promises! I'll take them up on their 100% guarantee, thank you very much.

It's going to be awkward though and I'm probably going to have to switch salons after making the complaint; but what's curious however, is that this particular salon had your blog as a link to their "brazilian simply-straight keratin" experience--before you had your results posted. And in my research process before I had the treatment done, I asked you the "how did it go?" question, and I now see that you answered truthfully. I guess because of this, they removed your link from their site. Fortunately, I found you again by doing a Google Search.

I thank you for your honesty because it really will make me feel better when I go in tomorrow to have the treatment re-applied. Perhaps, I will also mention how they dumped your blog because of your truthful response. But, I bet they'll probably just deny it was ever there in the first place.

Thank you Beauty Mommy/Insider; you have validated my concerns which I really stressed over--you know hurting people's feelings and coming off as a prima donna, which I definitely am not and not to mention spending a load of cash that I really couldn't afford.

I'll let you know how the repeat treatment goes so that we have a real litmus test on this treatment.

I just washed my hair & dried it after FOUR days of waiting for the simply straight to magically straighten my hair . . . my hair looks EXACTLY the same!! I am SO annoyed & frustrated . . . what a waste of time & money - still frizzy, still curly -
So I sacrificed four days at the gym (and didn't want to go out in public because I looked like a grease monkey) - and have nothing to show for it . . .
Would NOT recommend this product to anyone.
