Running on Empty

Today, at a pool party, I was chatting with a group of girlfriends when the subject of running came up. The group included my sister Nelly, the mother of three, and my friends Barb and Ashley, who have two kids each. And they all run. And by running, I don't mean running after the kids. I mean running on purpose. For exercise. Ashley, who has a 2 year old and a 7 month old, runs on the treadmill in her condo gym a couple of times a week. Maybe that's why she was wearing a bikini today, when I didn't dare don a bathing suit of any description. And Barb and Nelly were discussing the best times to run outside. Too early, and it's scary dark, but just a couple of hours later and the Florida sun could kill you.
I stood by silently. I had nothing to contribute to the conversation. Which got me thinking, again, about exercise. Not that I would ever run. I would rather have my another c-section without the benefit of a baby than run. I absolutely despise it. But I do like yoga, and dancing, and swimming, and I think I would enjoy tennis, although that requires too much time and planning right now. But somehow, I need to find a way to work it into my routine, even in very small weekly doses. Maybe we can take the girls for the walk we keep talking about, before dinner. That's my goal. I also just checked the schedule at my local yoga studio, and I discovered that they have added a new class at a much better time for me: Monday and Friday at 4 they have beginner's hot yoga. So, my goal, starting this week, is to go to one class a week, and work my way up to two classes a week. That's a doable goal for now, and it's something, anyway. Wish me luck!
